Dr. Imteyaz Qamar

Assistant Professor

University School of BioTechnology
Ph.D., Hormone Research Centre, School of Biological Science & Technology,Chonnam National University, South Korea
Animal Biotechnology

·         Dr. Imteyaz Qamar is working as an assistant professor at school of biotechnology, Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida, India. He started his research carrier from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore under the guidance of Prof. Arun Kumar in the department of Molecular Reproduction, development and Genetics. He was involved in the project entitled “Role of CYP1B1, MYOC, OPTN & OPTC genes in adult-onset primary open-angle Glaucoma”. In this project, he found various mutations in glaucoma patient samples by using PCR-SSCP and published a well-reputed paper (Molecular Vision 2007 13:667-676).

·         He earned his Doctoral degree in molecular endocrinology from Hormone Research Centre at Chonnam National University, South Korea with an emphasis on gene regulation and physiological function of an androgen receptor corepressor-19kD in Testicular Leydig cells using mice model. During his doctoral research, Dr. Qamar demonstrated that expression of ARR19 in testicular Leydig cells is regulated by LH/cAMP signaling via the control of GATA-1 expression, which results in the control of testicular steroidogenesis (Scientific Reports 2015, The journal of Biological Chemistry 2009 & 2010).

·         Dr. Imteyaz Qamar has also received various award such as Brain Korea-21 Best Research presenter award 2007 from the School of Biological Science and Technology, South Korea, Bharath Vikas award 2016, Young Scientist Award 2017 & 2019, STE meritorious award 2019 etc. He serves as a member of editorial boards of various journals like journal of developmental biology and tissue engineering, IOSR etc. He is also a member of the endocrinology society, United States of America.

Research Interest

Molecular Endocrinology, Cancer Genetics and Stress Biology

Ø  Designing of potential antagonist of splicing factors and DNA repair enzymes as therapeutic targets for application in Cancer Therapy, Screening of small molecules (Natural and Synthetic compounds) as potential inhibitors of various cancer progression and their mode of action

Ø  Steroid/nuclear receptors and human disease (infertility, reproductive disorders, metabolic syndrome and cancer regulation.

Ø  We are studying global stress responses and their regulation using various environmental stresses (oxidative stress, heavy metal stress, osmotic stress, heat shock, and DNA damage). Special emphasis is on oxidative stress such as hypoxia, where we are identifying the molecular variables playing key roles in this process as well as analyzing underlying regulatory mechanisms
