Biography

Dr. Priyadarsini Mitra is presently Assistant Professor (Assistant Professor, School of Buddhist Studies & Civilization, Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida from 8th December 2011-till date) and Former Head (Former Head, School of Buddhist Studies and Civilization, GBU from 6th August 2018 to 2nd May 2022) of School of Buddhist Studies and Civilization at Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida, India. Priyadarsini Mitra has completed her main educational life in the lap of nature at Santiniketan which is famous as Tagore’s place and started her teaching life also from Santiniketan, Visva Bharati, a Central University. She has completed her graduation with honours in Comparative Religion and achieved the position First class First and then she completed M.A in comparative Religion with First class and then again she has completed one more M.A in Philosophy with First class. She has received National Scholarship and Professor B.C.Roy award for her academic proficiency. She studied Buddhism as a major religion when she was studying B.A hons. in Comparative Religion and M.A in Comparative Religion and when she was studying M.A in philosophy then she studied Buddhism as one Philosophical School of Nine Indian Philosophical Schools. She has completed her Ph.D work on Buddhist studies from the Department of Buddhist studies from Jammu University. After that she worked as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow from Ramakrishna mission Indological Research Institute, Golpark, Kolkata and she researched on Buddhist Philosophy. She has done Pali Certificate Course from Visva Bharati University. She also done Certificate course on Russian Language from Visva Bharati University.

She has started her teaching life from Viva Bharati University, Sanitiniketan. She has also taught in Khalisani Mahavidyalaya, Chandernagore, W.B in the Department of Philosophy and Chandernagore Govt. College, Chandernagore in the Department of Philosophy. She taught as a Resource Person, Department of Buddhist Studies, Calcutta University and Resource Person, Course of World Religions, RMIC, Kolkata, Golpark. She taught Philosophy at Patha Bhavana, Visva Bharati University. She worked in NISSWAS, Bhuveneswar as an assistant Professor in Buddhist Studies Department and there she was Head as well. After that she joined in GBU.

Areas of her specialization are Philosophy, Comparative Religion, Religious Text and Buddhist Studies. Her areas of teaching and research are Buddhist Ethics and Buddhist Philosophy, Human Values and Ethics, Indian Philosophy , Philosophy of Religion, Comparative Religion, Contemporary Indian Philosophy, World Religions, Chinese Philosophy & Religion, Religious Text, Interfaith Dialogue, Woman Studies, Engaged Buddhism, Buddhist Psychology, Pali and Buddhist Sanskrit Literature, Abhidhamma Pitaka (Pali Literature), Buddhist Hybrid Sanskrit Language and Literature. She is member of various academic bodies.

Four student awarded Ph.D. under her supervision and one student is pursuing their Ph.D. under her supervision. She has written two books, ‘Reflection of Buddha’s Teaching on Philosophy of Life’ and another one is ‘Key to Happiness’. She has written many research papers on her interested research areas in various reputed Journals and Edited Books. She has also presented her research papers on various National and International Seminars and Conferences. She is also a popular writer of Bengali literature and philosophy.
